ARMY-CIVILIAN CONFLICT IN BORDUMSA

BORDUMSA March 20: Following the apprehension of Ronthai Lungphi the brother of an active political leader and social worker of Bordumsa circle at wee hours on Monday from his Bordumsa Magantong based residence by Makum based security forces in association with the local army during an anti-insurgency operation in the area, the armed army personnel in civil dress was assaulted by the agitated mob in the premises of Bordumsa Police Station.

According to the members of the Lungphi family, a group of army personnel had entered the house of the victim and forcibly took away the innocent Mr Lungphi and handed over to Bordumsa Police in Changlang District on Monday morning along with a pistol branding him as a NSCN link man.

Meanwhile, hundreds of agitated crowds thronged the local police station and assaulted one of the armed army personnel in civil dress whom the public mistaking him for army informer and responsible for previous night incident in Lungphi’s residence spat their anger. The assaulted army Sipoy identified as Rajib Gogoi of B COY 9 RAJRIF C/O 99 APO somehow escaped the public wrath and saved himself inside the police station.

However, faced with pressing demands of the local people the army officials who immediately attended the crisis withdrew the FIR against the victim stating ‘the victim who was suspected to be NSCN (K) is found innocent by public authenticity and released after investigations by local police’.

In the meantime, in regard to an alleged recovery of a pistol from the possession of the innocent, Bohon Bo, the President of Tangsa Development Society (TDS) Bordumsa in his joint press communique demanded of the local police to investigate thoroughly into the case and assert the exact nature of the act and circumstances leading to the recovery of the said seized weapon presently lying within the disposal of the police station.

The press communiqué states that Bordumsa Development Forum and Bordumsa Mahila Mandol in association with the TDS no doubt salute the uniform personnel but condemn their fabrication involving the innocent civilians of the areas. ‘ if police fails to investigate effectively to this effect and come up with the output immediately, we would take up other constitutional means to realize the ends’ said Mr Bo.

However, following the administration of first aids treatment by Government doctor to the mob- assaulted Mr Gogoi  in the police station itself arranged specially to avert further confrontations, the documents thus produced by Mr Gogoi genuinely proved his service to Indian Army . According to him, as a part of the team of Indian Army engaged in the counter Insurgency Operation, he was carrying out his duty particularly due mainly to resolve language problems arising between the army and the local tribal people of the area.

Sabadam Taying the ADC Incharge Bordumsa Subdivision and  BDO Incharge Bordumsa Diwan Gamlin also were also available in the police station  to conduct the official affairs smoothly .
