Namsai , 12th Feb: The thirty fourth edition of the ethno-cultural festivalof Singpho communities began today at Namsai. The festival is a celebrated in commemoration of the progenitor of the tribe ‘Shapawng Yawng’. This is the first time that Shapawng Yawng Manau Poi is being celebrated at Namsai. Singpho chief, Duwa Ningroo Jawja Maio unfurled the Singpho National flag at the festival. Greeting people on the occasion, he opined that the younger generation must take the onus of carrying forward the rich cultural heritage of the tribe. He also underscored the need to keep away from drug abuse and strive in the field of education. Thirty four gun shots were fired as a tribute to the progenitor and marking the thirty fourth edition of the mega festival. Further community dance were also performed around the ‘Manau Shadung’, ceremonial pillars and sacred logo of the festival twice. Singpho community from various parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam also participated in the fest. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein will be gracing the festival on Tuesday as the chief guest while Chow Tewa Mein, Parliamentary Secretary Environment and Forests and Chow Zingnu Namchoom, Parliamentary Secretary Planning, AR and Training are expected to attend as guests of honours.
